I’m in Toronto right now for a wedding, but I’ve had about a week to settle into life in Ann Arbor. So far so good, but I am a little overwhelmed at how quickly the day goes by with classes and responsibilities at home. I can see how easy it will be to get inundated with MBA related activities and spreading myself too thin.

I finished the accounting waiver class and felt very comfortable with the material. Perhaps CFA level 1 helped in preparing me for this class, but I felt that the material was presented in a way to allow just about anyone to get familiar with basic accounting concepts in a relatively short amount of time.

That being said, I can see how people may decide to continue on to take ACC 502.

Still, I’m anxious to hit the ground running and start my internship search ASAP. Can’t wait to meet the MBA2′s for help and guidance on my search.

I got into Michigan yesterday morning. It’s been a busy couple of days unpacking and meeting all of my classmates. I leave you with the coolest shirt I’ve seen so far. I had to get it.

I’m headed out to Ann Arbor tonight with my roommate. We guesstimate about a 10 hour drive, assuming the trip goes smoothly. I still have to do some last minute packing, but everything seems to be in order. I hope I didn’t forget anything. I’m anxious and nervous about this move, but I’m looking forward to the next 18 months or so and hope that this will open some doors for me in my pursuit of gainful employment in finance and investments.

Here’s to hoping for a life-changing event.

Most of my stuff is now in boxes, taped up and ready to go. In 3 days, I will be on my way to Ann Arbor.

One thing that I learned from this experience is that it’s not so bad to spend a few hundred more to hire help instead of DIY. The move to AA is pretty much all DIY with a bit of help from U-Pack. U-Pack is a service that shows up with a truck where you load all of your stuff into yourself and they take care of middle step of driving the stuff out to your destination.

Of course, in our case, we may very well be too tired to move anything when we get there, but I guess we’ll see how it goes.

In other news, holy crap, I’m moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan!

Poutine and Bagels

Came back from a weekend to Montreal yesterday. It was my first time visiting and can say with certainty that I had a great time and would definitely go visit again.

The drawback was that it rained quite a bit on Saturday, which prevented us from walking around the city and enjoying what Montreal has to offer. Still, we managed to do most of what was on our checklist. A couple of highlights include:
Poutine – I never heard of this until I came here, but it’s quite delicious. It’s basically french fries served with gravy and cheddar cheese curds. The curds were surprisingly light and contrasted with the heaviness of the gravy, which made for a delicious treat while indoors away from the rain.
Underground city – The downtown area has areas that connect directly to the Metro and the office buildings that sit on the ground level of the city. When it gets really cold, you don’t want to be outside. Theoretically, you could live in Montreal during the winter and never have to step outside to do your grocery shopping and the like. It’s pretty great.

We also brought back some bagels from St. Viateur Bagels. Coming from NJ, I must say that I am very impressed with the everything bagels I brought back with me. They are quite tasty!

Happy 4th of July everyone! I’m spending the evening catching up on music and updating my iPod. I’m sad to say that I’ve been really out of my element lately in terms of keeping up with the rapidly changing music scene.

I generally rely on other blogs to keep up with new music, but nothing has been popping out at me for the last several weeks. The most exciting release I’ve heard so far is the new Stars record.

Other than that, I will just have to rely on NPR’s All Songs Considered and Pitchfork to keep tabs on the music pulse.

Update: New Kylie Minogue streaming on NPR? Am I dreaming? I thought Kylie would be too pop for NPR, but I guess not!
